PHASE TWO! - lets all add stuff -

     Here's the master sampler platter so far! If you want to add to any of these tracks in any way just email/message/text/call me and i'll send you the whole file. This is where things get fun, go nuts. If you need a part taken out or want to replace the drum beat or bass line or whatever just let me know and i'll get the correct files to you. --- Send me back the track(s) that you recorded with the file starting at the zero marker of the original file and i'll mix it in - boom.

      I've given about a minute to a minute and a half of each song so you can hear more of it and see if you'd like to work on it.

New stuff and first deadline soon -

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been at it for a while.  Been busy with work and travelling. This is basically just a reminder that the deadline for initial submissions is in 9(ish) days!!! I'll be working on getting some nice canvas beats in that time as well so that if anyone wants to lay down basic song structure over beats - it will be available.  The other stuff is more completed (at least a chord progression and beat) so if you've been looking forward to adding solos, synth lines, aux perc, vocals, or sparkles - that's available too.

Potential timelines...

We're coming up on the end of the first month of HiFaThElPoOnCo2013 (High Fantasy Themed Electronica Pop Online Collaboration 2013) and I'm starting to think about a timeline for the whole operation.  In order to keep thing s pretty laid back in the spirit of the project, I'm going to set some loose deadlines to put us into the next phase of the project.

Let's say... deadline for foundation submissions Monday, DEC 16th. - Obviously I'll take stem/canvas submissions for basic track outlines or drum part ideas and whatever after this date, but we'll be moving onto the second phase and they might be put on the back burner.

The week of DEC 16 I will be sending out the collected tracks to those of you who've expressed interest adding additional parts to songs for HiFaThElPoOnCo2013.  Ideally the add ons should be completed within a week or two after they are assigned - we'll continue this process til a track is ready for vocals. 

Third phase is adding vocals and should be able to start doing this around the new year or sooner.  Lyrics/concepts are in the works and I have some vocalists in mind, and have contacted a few.

LAST POINT: The following is a list of people who have already submitted/showed interest/and that i mean to contact... no last names for obvious reasons, this is more for me than anything but if you should be listed and you're not, let me know!!  If you want to be a part of this project and aren't on the list PLEASE CONTACT me... bwilliam.young -at- gmail  . We still need beat makers/producers, song arrangers, chord progressionists, melody makes, synth wizards, lyrcal/story conceptualizes, visual artists, graphic designer(maybe), vocalists, reviewer/promo people, and anything else you think might help!!!!

SAMPLER 2 and other stuff..

Hey everyone!

Here's this weeks sampler!

    The first groove is something i made from the sound sample pack that I posted here a few weeks ago, I'm pretty glad it turned out so well! let me know if anyone has ideas or a second part for that one.  - -
    The second sample song is an Enya-ish stem progression called ELF1 that i came up with and then sent over to Nate, who added a synth bass line, extra synth parts and piano! sounds great!
    Third one is Nate's new stem, also sounds fucking great, he sent is to me as DWARF1, over which I had a good chuckle.
    Last one is Georges realization of a beat that i beat boxed into my phone the other week, thanks George great work!

   Please contact me if you have ideas for these or would like to lay something down over one of them! More to come as always... -b

Danny Elfman.

  Not super related to this project... aside from the fast that i love this man's work. he does talk a bit about his process and some other interesting bits. I liked hearing about working one on one with Tim Burton was basically just goofing off and tossing ideas back and forth, with no one else in control. The description of visuals in relation to the music really resounds with me. Mad respect for Elfman and Burton obviously... maybe something to think about as we move along - thinking about visuals and story arc as the lyrics and feel are created... more on this later.

    Also i'd like to say that alll the music that is coming in is helping to realize the overall vision, story arc, lyrical content, feel, etc.. so of course it remains an experiment and very malleable.
   And not to leave everyone in the dark I'll have content post with the new songs and such tomorrow.

LEGEND movie

    I just watched Ridley Scott's 1985 movie LEGEND starrting Tom Cruise and Mia Sara. It was a great little cheesy fantasy movie with great sets and costumes, unicorns, elves/faeries, goblins and a dark lord (Tim Curry). Enjoyed the soundtrack alot and it turns out it's by Tangerine Dream! Hell yeah.
   Pretty inspiring flick for this project and the soundtrack is great - check it out. Just reminds me that this current project will need some synth flute with pitch bend somewhere on it.

Sampler Platters

Alright, this post is a two part taste for everyone!
    First off, here is a collection of the submissions i received last week, thank you - in order of sounds appearing the the sampler ( Rachel, Nate, Winston, and the last beat is me.) Here's the first course ---


 
   Loved getting both some more completed peices as well as some beats that we can all add to and improve! I'd lke to send some of these Reason files over to Mo Juiced to beef them up. Maybe throw a new synth bass sound on Rachels file, - less grainy?? Anyone want to add to these?

    Also, thanks to George for undertaking that beat idea from my last post - looking forward to it!

   Secondly, I present you with a sample pack from stuff I recorded around the house the last few days.  There are 85 individual samples - most notably are some gated toms, splashing sounds and a full octave of charanga notes.  I'm excited to see what everyone comes up with from this, and feel free to use these on any other music project as well. Let me know if you have any trouble downloading it.

Beginning concepts

     Alright folks, we're getting started on this 'high fantasy themed electronica pop recording collaboration'!  I'm very excited about this and i'm stoked to have all of you on board, got a good group of people so far (introductions down the road - most of you probably know each other).

     I'll be using this blog as an update of what's going on and adding inspirational material as well as links to sound ideas, lyrics, conceptual ideas, artwork and the like...

     THE PROJECT: Lets build songs over the internets. We'll start by collecting some stems , however incomplete.  Would like to sound like... sparkly - bubblegum pop(but bubble gum that elves would chew) - magical sounding (in the literal sense of casting magic spells)

     What i'm getting right now is skeleton beats and song ideas from those of you who want to submit (just got my first rough song from nate and it's amazing already!) i'm working on some myself but not so good at the drum machine stuff. I see my role as organizing and putting together the pieces as well as filling in any necessary gaps.
   
     This video is what i've been sending everyone for the initial idea, there's alot more out there but i have yet to settle on anything as spot on as this. let me know if you come across anything that you like!
